PPF concerned over assault on reporter in Congo

Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) in a letter to Bruno Tshibala, Prime Minister of Democratic Republic of the Congo has expressed concern over the attack on a journalist, Justin Mwamba on September 29.

PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in his letter, condemned such attacks on journalists and media workers and call on the authorities to immediately take action against officers involved in this act.

According to Journaliste en Danger (JED), a police officer of South Kivu assaulted Justin Mwamba, reporter of Radio Television Ngoma ya Kivu for covering a protest against unrest in Bukavu city organized by the civilians.

Bukavu is a city in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

A group of officers of Congolese National Police, on the orders of a senior officer dragged Mwamba on the floor, started beating and abusing him. His equipment’s were also seized.

The officers also assaulted other crowd of the protest.
