PPF concerned over raid in office of online magazine ‘Confidencial’

Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) in a letter to Daniel Ortega, President of Nicaragua has expressed concern over the raid in the office of online magazine ‘Confidencial’.

PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in his letter, considered this incident as an attack on freedom of expression and urged the Nicaraguan authorities to immediately and thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure such incidents not happen in future.

According to Inter American Press Association (IAPA), the police officers raided the offices of Confidencial which consists the newsroom of weekly magazine, online newspaper and television programs Esta Semanav and Esta Noche operate. All the computers including the journalists’ equipment’s were seized.

Between the evening of December 13 till morning of December 14, the offices of the Communication Investigations Center (Cinco), the Del Rió Foundation, the Popol Na Foundation, the La Segovias Leadership Institute, the Institute for Development and Democracy (IPADE), the Center of Information and Services of Health Consultancy (Cisas) and the Nicaraguan Human Rights Center (Cenidh), which together with the Public Policies Strategic Studies Institute (Ieepp) and Let’s Make Democracy were also raided.
