PPF condemns the threat and verbal assault on TellZim staff

Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), in a letter to Emmerson Mnangagwa, President of Zimbabwe has expressed concern over the threat and verbal assault on TellZim staff.

PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali has condemned the verbal attack and threats on journalists and called on the law enforcement agencies and Zimbabwe government to thoroughly investigate the matter and stop targeting journalists for doing their job.

According to Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA), Sengerayi Manyanga, Masvingo councilor of the Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU PF) reached the office of newspaper in the morning of February 1 and threatened staff for publishing an article in the weekly edition.

The article was related to the threats Manyanga made against the Masvingo Town Clerk during a council meeting.

The newspaper also carried reports that Manyanga was involved in planning ZANU PF protests against the Masvingo Town Council.
