On September 10, police arrested another Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) worker accused of attacking journalists outside Adiala Jail during a media talk by Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan. The suspect was identified through CCTV footage. Earlier, three PTI workers had already been arrested in connection with the incident.

On the day of the incident, journalists had gathered outside Adiala Jail to cover Aleema Khan’s media talk following proceedings in the Toshakhana case. During the interaction, questions about her properties in the United States prompted a confrontation that escalated into a physical altercation. PTI workers allegedly attacked several journalists, reportedly incited by party lawyer Naeem Haider Panjutha. Police later registered a case against Aleema Khan, Panjutha, and about 40 unidentified individuals on charges including criminal intimidation, rioting, and unlawful assembly.

Journalists boycotted Aleema Khan’s media talk following the assault, citing physical violence and verbal abuse. Baloch further alleged that the attack was pre-planned and accompanied by a coordinated online vilification campaign.

Following these developments, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan apologised to journalists outside Adiala Jail, where he embraced Baloch. “We strongly condemn this incident,” he said, adding that the party did not believe in violence and announcing an internal inquiry.  He emphasized that violence is not part of the PTI’s agenda and urged that differences should not escalate into physical confrontations. He also criticized the addition of terrorism charges to the case against PTI workers, labeling it as an abuse of the justice system.

Aleema Khan also condemned the assault on journalists but alleged that “people are sent in the garb of journalism to discredit” her. Defending her property holdings, she maintained that her business interests were lawfully earned and challenged critics to provide proof.
