Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), in a letter to Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of South Sudan express concern over the closure of The Nation Mirror English daily newspaper by the South Sudan National Security.
PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in his letter urged the government of South Sudan to take action against shutting down of publication and call the security to re-open the paper immediately and unconditionally.
According to Association for Media Development in South Sudan, on 14 September the South Sudan National Security Head Office summoned the management of The Nation Mirror newspaper at Jebel, in Juba and told to shutdown the publication with immediate effect without giving and reason.
The decision to close down The Nation Mirror came a few weeks after the paper experienced tough times being summoned by security. At least two of their articles were removed on different occasions by security before being printing at the Ganesh Printing Press in Juba.
The closure of The Nation Mirror is a serious threat to freedom of expression and of the press.
