Pakistan Press Foundation is concerned over the killing of a journalist in Mexico

Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) in a letter to Enrique Pena Nieto, President of Mexico expressed concern over the killing of Pedro Tamayo Rosas, a Veracruz journalist who was under the protection of state authorities.

PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in his letter urged Mexican government to conduct a credible and thorough investigation into the killing of Tamayo and punish the responsible.

According to Reporters without borders (RSF), Tamayo was with his family when two unidentified assailants shot him multiple times at close range, in the municipality of Tierra Blanca, Veracruz state, located in the east of Mexico.

Tamayo worked for the daily Al Calor Politico and Pinero of Cuenca. He wrote on topics related to local crime and held his Facebook page in la linea de fuego, los riesgos the noticia (In the line of fire, the risks of information).

On January 25, Tamayo moved to Oaxaca after receiving threats and placed under the protection of the Commission’s notice and security to journalists of Veracruz, who arranged his trip to Tijuana, northwest of the country. After hiding for several months, Pedro Tamayo Rosas have decided to return to his home in Tierra Blanca.

A patrol of local police made regular rounds of Tamayo’s home. At the time of the incident, police was about ten meters away from the crime scene and was inactive.
