Police Probe Ongoing in Journalist Jibran’s Assassination; Police, Journalists and Local Elders Receive Threatening Letters
More than a month after the murder of journalist Khalil Jibran, Khyber police are still struggling to identify his killers. During a briefing at the Shah Kas Police Training Centre, District Police Officer Saleem Abbas Kulachi discussed the ongoing investigation, which has involved examining 13-14 suspects without confirming the identity of the actual assailants. Kulachi also updated the media about the threatening letters police officials and journalists were receiving.
Speaking to reporters, Kulachi said, “The issue is of a grave nature, and the police are working in close coordination with other law enforcement agencies in order to make a breakthrough,”
Furthermore, Kulachi addressed concerns regarding threatening letters directed at police officers, local elders, and journalists. The letters, purportedly from the militant groups Lashkari Al-Jihad and Ghazwaul Hind, have not yet had their authenticity verified. “These groups are relatively new, and we are taking all threats seriously while we work to confirm the legitimacy of these threats,” Kulachi explained.
Jibran was killed on June 18 when unidentified individuals intercepted his vehicle, dragged him out, and shot him 19 times near his home in the Mazreena area. He had previously received threats and had faced three prior attacks.
