Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), in a letter to Aleksandar Vučić, President of Serbia has expressed concern over the attack on the building of Serbian national broadcaster RTS in Belgrade on March 16.

PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali has denounced the incident and urged the concerned authorities to investigate and hold the protestors responsible for invading the premises of station. PPF also called on the government of Serbia to provide security to the journalists and media houses.

According to the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), a group of at least 100 anti-government demonstrators forcefully entered the premises of station and demanded live broadcasting of their voice in opposition to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

A group of 50 police officers were deployed to evacuate the protestors from the premises of RTS headquarters.

During the attack on station some journalists were pushed and threatened by the demonstrators, however no one got injured.

The station building was under siege, editors and journalists were locked in a room, some doors and windows were also broken.

Zoran Stanojevic, RTS editor said, “Protestors asked me to make a special show where they could talk about their demands and they asked me to call my superiors. I called them and they said the same thing I already explained: this was not possible. We asked them to leave voluntarily but they refused. Police had to push them out and some of the resisted so the police used some force. There was no heavy beating.”
