CPNE sets up panel on press laws

KARACHI : Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) on Monday announced the Press Laws and Regulations Committee.

According to a CPNE statement, the approval for setting up Press Laws and Regulations Committee was given by CPNE President Arif Nizami during a recent meeting of the council’s standing committee.

The Daily Khabrain Chief Editor Imtinan Shahid has been appointed as chairman of the committee and Daily Intekhab Chief Editor Anwar Sajidi has been named as deputy chairman.

Moreover, the president and Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami, Aijazul Haq (Daily Express), Dr Jabbar Khattak (Daily Awami Awaz), Tahir Farooq (Daily Ittehad), Rafiq Afghan (Daily Ummat), Maqsood Yousufi (Daily Nai Baat), Muzaffar Ejaz (Daily Jasarat), Abdul Khalique Ali (Online News Agency), Tanveer Shoukat (Daily Ghareeb), Ahmed Shafiq (Monthly Hospitality Plus), Yahya Khan Sadozai (Daily Lead Pakistan), Ali Ahmed Dhiloon (Daily Leader).

Hafiz Sanaullah (Daily Frontier Star), Muhammad Taqi Alvi (Daily Messenger), Syed Muhammad Munir Jillani (Daily Paigham), Waqas Tariq Farooq (Daily Jahan Numa), Syed Muhammad Raza Shah (Daily Jago), Ashfaq Ahmed Mufti (Daily Ilhaq), Nasheed Raee (Daily Qaumi Awaz), Rafiq Ahmed Pirzada (Daily Pak Sindh), Imtiaz Qazi (Daily Tameer-e-Sindh), Abdul Salam Bath, Rashid Iqbal (Daily Chand), Rizwan Shah (Daily Jag News), Abid Aleem (Daily Millat), Zahida Abbasi (Daily Nau Sijj) and Haseena Jatoi (Daily Moomal) would be the committee’s members.

The committee’s purpose would be to suggest ways and means to member editors of the implementation on Press Laws and Regulations, and assist them in tackling problems arising out of their execution.

It would inform the Standing Committee of CPNE about its decisions and recommendations.
