Pemra fixes March 2 for hearing viewpoint of 29 channels
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Friday fixed March 02 for hearing the viewpoint of 29 TV channels, which were served notices for allegedly running a factual incorrect report on explosion in Lahore.
In a statement, Pemra has also made it clear that the private TV channel, which claimed that its name was not among 29 channels issued notices, was included in the list of channels that were sent notices with regard to the Lahore incident a day earlier.
Meanwhile, Pemra looks forward to early judgement in the petition filed by Samaa TV channel eight months ago, as it continues to receive complaints against ‘Abb Takk’ TV channel regarding its ‘Khufya’ programme.
Criticism is being heaped on the ‘Abb Takk’ channel with regards to its programme on social media while the authority also has received scores of complaints, seeking action against the show, said Pemra in its statement issued here Friday.
It pointed out that in this profgramme, an ‘Abb Takk’ channel team is shown raiding house of a citizen, triggering severe reaction from viewers, who have called for action against the television channel.
The authority had completely banned daramatisation and telecasting the conducting of raids in all TV programmes way back on June 06, 2016 during the holy month of Ramazan.
However, Samaa TV had moved the Sindh High Court against this measure taken by the authority and got stayed its order. But despite passage of eight months not a singled hearing could be held in this connection.
For early hearing and judgement in the matter, the authority has already filed an application and expects the SHC to hear the case early and announce its judgement on this extremely important matter so that the authority could get its order implemented.
