KARACHI: A media worker of Samaa TV channel was shot dead in an attack on a DSNG van of the channel near KDA Chowrangi in North Nazimabad on Sunday.
The victim, identified as Taimur, was with a team of the TV channel covering a cracker attack on a police mobile in the same vicinity.
Officials said that unidentified men on a motorcycle opened fire on the DSNG van and sped away. They said Taimur, an assistant cameraman, sustained critical bullet injuries. He was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died during treatment.
Additional Police Surgeon Dr Rohina Hasan said Taimur received bullets in his head.
Samaa TV Director News Farhan Malik said that the channel team was in the area to cover the attack on the police van when it came under attack.
Central SSP Muqaddas Haider said that the suspects who attacked the police van might be involved in the attack on the DSNG van.
He said seven shots were fired on the DSNG van, out of which four bullets hit it.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah made a telephone contact with Inspector General A. D. Khawaja after the attack on the TV channel van and sought report from him.
On the instructions of the chief minister, the IG constituted two special teams to investigate the attacks on the TV channel’s van and police mobile.
