Pakistan Press Foundation is concerned over the arrest of journalist in Burundi

Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) in a letter to Pierre Nkurunziza, President of Burundi to express concern over the arrest of journalist Jean Bigirimana.

PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in his letter urged the government of Burundi to immediately release Jean Bigirimana.

According to Reporters without borders (RSF), Bigirimana has been detained by the intelligence services of Muramvya province in central Somalia without any official justification since July 22.

Bigirimana is currently working with Info Great Lakes and Iwacu. He was former journalist at Rema FM radio.

After getting the news of Bigirimana’s arrest his family members went and came to know that in the presence of local authorities, SNR members arrested the journalist and accused him for his frequent trips to Rwanda. The journalist was recently returning from a journalism training provided in the neighboring country. No other legal reason was given for his arrest.
