MULTAN: Members of the Multan Photojournalists Association on Monday staged a demonstration against the alleged torture of their colleague by three security guards of the Nishtar Hospital.

The protesters led by Multan Photojournalists Association chairman Shadab Anwar Amrohi staged a demonstration outside the press club. They demanded action against the accused security guards. Speaking on the occasion, Shadab Anwar said that the torture incident took place on May 2. Soon after the incident, the journalists met hospital MS Dr Ashiq Pervez, who handed over two security guards to Cantonment police and suspended the third security guard.

The next day, the security guards were released on bail while the third security guard resumed his duty because the hospital administration denied his suspension, he added. He has demanded Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif take action against the hospital medical superintendent. Earlier, the security guards allegedly tortured the photojournalist when he was covering an accident case outside the hospital emergency ward.
