PPF condemns killing of Mexican sports reporter

Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) in a letter to Andrés Manuel López Obrador, President of Mexico has expressed deep concern over the killing of Mexican sports reporter Omar Iván Camacho Mascareño.

PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in his letter, has strongly denounced the killing of journalist and urged the authorities to immediately investigate the matter and found the perpetrators responsible behind this heinous crime.

PPF also called on the Mexican authorities to provide security to the journalists and media workers as Mexico is considered deadliest country in the Western hemisphere for practicing journalism.

According to the Institute of Mass Information (IMI), the journalist’s dead body was found near the town of Salvador Alvarado, in the northern Mexican state of Sinaloa on March 24, 2019.

Camacho was a sports reporter of program, ‘Noticieros Altavoz’ on local radio station Chávez Radiocast and also the founder and editor of ‘Évora Sport’, a Facebook page covering the sports events in the region.

Camacho was missing since he left home in the morning of March 24 to cover a baseball game, later in the evening his body was found near a bridge in town with severe head injuries.
