Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) in a letter to Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of Gambia welcomed the issuance of arrest warrants for the accused in the killing of Deyda Hydara, a journalist and founder of independent Point Newspaper.
PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in his letter appreciates courts verdict and hopes this will be step towards ensuring justice for slain journalist Hydara and his family.
According to Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Magistrates’ court in the Gambian capital, Banjul issued the arrest warrants against a Yahya Jammeh, former dictator, Kawsu Camara, Former Army Commander and Major Sanna Manjang, in alleged assassination.
Hydara was a well-known critic of Yahya Jammeh and the president of the Gambia Press Union (GPU) and led advocacy efforts against legislative restrictions on press freedom in the country.
On December 16, 2004 Hydara was shot dead in a drive-by shooting by unknown assailants on his way from work
