CJP orders arrest journalist’s killers

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) on Saturday directed inspector general of police Punjab to ensure arrest of culprits involved in the murder of a local journalist of Sambrial within four days. Earlier when IGP Arif Nawaz to a court’s query, confirmed that suspects belong to ruling PML-N, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, observed that the police appeared to be under pressure.

The chief justice said he could not express his feelings he had after listening to recording of the last telephone call made by deceased journalist to district council chairman telling about the threat to his life. The IGP told the court that names of suspects had been placed on the exit control list and they would be arrested soon.

Zeeshan Butt of Daily Nawa-e-Waqt was allegedly shot dead by Begowala union council chairman Imran Aslam Cheema. The other suspects included Shahid Abbas, Saqlain and Shahid. The Supreme Court on Saturday also ordered exhumation and fresh autopsy of the seven-year-old girl, who was found murdered in Jaranwala. The victim, Mubashira, was abducted while she was playing near her house. Later, her body was recovered from the nearby fields.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had taken suo motu notice of the incident and sought a report from the IGP. Counsel of the deceased’s family told the court that autopsy report was faulty and a fresh post-mortem was required to meet the ends of justice.
