LAHORE: During the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Monday protest, the Geo team, including female anchor Sana Mirza, senior reporters Amin Hafeez and Ahmad Faraz, were manhandled by PTI activists.
The violent protesters attacked the Geo News team with water bottles and rocks thrown by slings. They also pushed and shoved reporters and anchorpersons of Geo and forced them to leave the spot.
The first incident occurred at Chungi Amar Sadhu at around 11am. The protesters pelted the Geo News van (DSNG) with stones. As a result, reporter Ahmad Faraz and cameraman Khwaja Amir received injuries.
Meanwhile, protesters attacked anchorperson Sana Mirza and Amin Hafeez with water bottles and slingshots at Charing Cross at 5pm. They stopped them from reporting and asked them to leave the scene. The violent activists also did not spare senior journalist Sohail Warraich. They pushed him and used abusive language against him.
The protesters also threatened the Geo team at Liberty Chowk and stopped them from coverage. No case was registered against any of the attacking protesters till the filing of the report.Meanwhile, women politicians from different parties strongly condemned the misbehaviour with the Geo team members, particularly its anchor Sana Mirza by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf activists, and demanded immediate apology from Imran over the incident.
Some of the senior women politicians, while voicing serious concern over the maltreatment with female journalists, camera team and reporters, stated that the mindset of the PTI wasn’t acceptable. They asserted that Imran Khan was leading the youth of the country to nowhere but anarchy.
KARACHI: The founder and leader of Muttahida Quami Movement, Altaf Hussain, strongly slammed the acts of harassment and attack on private TV channels reporters, news anchor and their DSNG vans.
In a statement issued from the London Secretariat, the MQM chief condemned maltreatment of senior journalists, including news anchor Sana Mirza and senior reporter Amin Hafiz at the PTI rally in Lahore.
PPP Senator Maula Bux Chandio, Senator Saeed Ghani and Senator Yousuf Baloch and Meraj Mohammed Khan, a veteran politician, also condemned the attack on Geo TV reporter and anchorperson Sana Mirza in the PTI rally in Lahore.Online adds: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Affairs, Irfan Siddiqui, also condemned the attack on a female journalist by PTI workers in Lahore on Monday.
